R. Houston and Son Sandblasting introduces the technologically advanced CO2CLEANBLAST Pelletized Carbon Dioxide Cleaning System, the surface cleaning system currently making other methods obsolete. CO2CLEANBLAST eliminates chipping, abrasives, or solvents to remove heavy rust and paint/tar-like coatings, and waste material.

The CO2CLEANBLAST Cleaning System utilizes technology originally developed to clean delicate spacecraft and aircraft parts. Other cleaning methods, such as sandblasting, particle blasting, waterblasting and chemical cleaning proved harmful to parts made of exotic metals and alloys. Abrasive cleaning, oxidation, chemical permeation and residual chemical films either altered, damaged or deteriorated fiberglass, metal, plastic substrates.

The CO2CLEANBLAST Cleaning System is designed to remove heavy rust, paint/tar-like coatings, and waste material completely by penetrating surfaces with high-velocity CO2 (dry ice) pellets projected by compressed air from a hand-held spray nozzle system. As a CO2 pellet hits the surface, it explodes on impact, shocking and dislodging the surface coating without abrading the underlying, harder substrate (such as fiberglass or metal).

As the CO2 pellet evaporates on impact, the post-blast waste falls to the ground to be swept or vacuumed and disposed; the pellet returns to the atmosphere in the form of a harmless vapor or gas (sublimate). Evaporation of the CO2 gas means absolutely no blast material residue to clean up and dispose as with other cleaning methods such as sandblasting, slurry blasting or chemical cleaning, and no drying time or oxidation as with waterblasting.

The CO2CLEANBLAST Cleaning System is suitable for 65 to 75% of industrial blast cleaning applications today -- essentially all, except those where an abraded (white metal) surface is required to prepare for painting.
